Arian Dylan
I met Arian Dylan by chance when I gave a talk on artist books at the Fresno Art Museum some years ago. Arian, who is a native of Mexico had a summer exchange program at the museum and was creating works out of cut books. Among them were the "seed books", created from cutout sections of books. The beauty of the edges and the utter simplicity of these works replicate nature in an astonishing way.
Arian Dylan was born in Oaxaca, Mexico. He earned his degree with honorable mention in the Escuela Nacional de Pintura, Escultura y Grabado "La Esmeralda". He has exibited his work in Japan, Canada, Spain, USA and Mexico.

Dylan has been working for some time on La Virgen Buda. We are excited to have six volumes of this incredible series. Pure white pages are handcut to form designs that merge elements of Buddha with images of Our Lady of Guadelupe, a spiritual icon that is powerful in Mexico. Without saying anything, the artist is able to show us that they are the same. Beyond gender, beyond sectarianism, these mandala-like figures emanate equanimity. The mantra Om Mani Padme Hum encircles the head of the virgin as she sits in meditation. In some she is seated on lotus petals.
La Virgen Buda 17.25" x 13.25"
$1400 each volume.
