Nikki Thompson

CV

Nikki Thompson prints with letterpress, Gocco, and inkjet. She uses innovative structures and materials to reflect the book's content. Each book is handbound. Production occurs either in a living room with a terrific view of downtown or on a red formica kitchen table in a San Francisco apartment. Letterpress printing happens in a Berkeley carriage house with a rich history of printers and many small critters.

Nikki Thompson, A Contemplation on the Obsessive Nature of Time, The Art of the Book at Donna Seager Gallery

A Contemplation on the Obsessive Nature of Time

A series of 12 flipbooks, one for each month of the year. The images show the progressive growth of a surreal plant. January's seed ends in December with a strange collaged plant, a pocket watch dropping from between the petals. The images are based on Julio Cortazar's prose poems "Preamble to the Instructions on How to Wind a Watch" and "Instructions on How to Wind a Watch."

Edition of 30. Photocopy and Gocco printed.
2" x 4.25" x 4"

$60
