Imagine our delight in finding a jewelry artist who treats paper as a precious material. It is such a natural for a gallery that specializes in Artist Books.
This series is entitled the Erotica Series. Kiwon likes to combine foreign materials together to find a new kind of "marriage." This series is taken from the Kama Sutra. The narrated part is the New York Times newspaper stacked very tightly. The parts that are exposed are illustrations taken directly from the book. The most precious materials, the pearls, are placed directly beside the erotic images. Wang enjoys treating the images as being as precious as the pearls. Every illustration has a ‘daring’ side and a ‘modest’ side.
For Kiwon, it is ironic that erotic things are always treated as taboo when all human beings are the product of lovemaking. Having come from a restrictive society in Korea, she found working with these images and ideas liberating.
These pins and pendants are exquisite. The parts are almost all moveable, allowing the wearer to expose different images and not others. Let your sensual self show.
